PI is actively engaged in benchmarking a wide variety of goods bought by the mining sector.
PI has clients in the gold, platinum, diamond and base metal sectors and benchmarks representative items in spend categories ranging from the strategic, maintenance, repair and operational (MRO) items and services through to transactional consumables.
The Mining PricetrakTM service is designed to give clients an up-to-date view of the prices they pay for a myriad of goods consumed. It offers clients price comparisons in context for a wide range of products which are representative of much broader spend categories, purchased regularly by mining organisations. PI has an extensive database of mine-related goods and tracks these for many mining companies on a month-by-month basis. These include the strategic; such as explosives, initiation systems, roof supports, etc. to engineering spares (i.e. lubricants, OEM and generic spares, bearings, steel items, etc.) to consumables - stationery, food/groceries, clothing, etc.
The mining prices benchmarked are delivered-to-site prices excl. government taxes and settlement discounts, although the service will accommodate other prices, such as free on board (FOB), ex factory gate, etc. Subscribers are able to compare their prices anonymously with their peers to identify potential savings opportunities.
The service includes a comprehensive set of price parameters to put the various prices achieved by different organisations in context. These include supplier, brand (where relevant), distance of mine from major urban centre, estimated annual quantities purchased, date of latest price and or contract re-negotiation, date that the price is valid until. Furthermore, price parameters can be added and adjusted to suit local conditions, for example in South Africa PI include the Black Empowerment status of suppliers.
Our reports are produced monthly and show for each of our clients how their prices for individual, representative items move month on month compared to other mining (and non mining) clients.
